Trident Literacy Association announces the arrival of the 2014 "Ornament of Hope." Each year we sell the ornament to raise funds for our adult literacy programs in the tri-county.
Whether for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, holidays, or other special occasions, the 'Ornament of Hope' makes a beautiful gift that lasts a lifetime.
Single ornaments are $15. The matted and framed print is $35 plus $5 for postage. Orders should be sent to: Trident Literacy Association, 5416-B Rivers Avenue, N. Charleston, SC 29406, or you may order online.
Since 1991, at the request of then-Governor Carroll Campbell, local artist, the late Anne Worsham Richardson donated the use of one of her paintings to benefit literacy efforts throughout the state. The exclusive interpretation from watercolor to metal is the work of Elizabeth Anne Neiman at The Charleston Mint.
We are so fortunate that Mayor Summey recognizes the importance of our mission and has been a strong and passionate patron for Trident Literacy Association.
This year has been wonderful for Trident Literacy. We held our annual achievement celebration on August 11th at the Coliseum where 50+ GED and 50+ WorkKeys recipients were honored. Dr. Mary Thornley was our keynote speaker. Tissue was needed when we shared each student’s moving story of triumph. It was a wonderful ceremony and we are very proud of all our honorees.
We once again received a grant from the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina for our Mother to Mother Program that has just come to a very successful end. Our English as a Second Language program has tripled in size this past year.
Through these programs, we carry out the core of our mission; helping all adults improve their reading, math and computer skills, giving adults the opportunities for better paying jobs and higher education.
