photo-keith-summey-formal-2014We wanted you to be one of the first to know that we are roasting Mayor Keith Summey on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 6pm, by several high-profile community members, including Mayor Bill Collins, Bill Sharpe, Andy Savage, Bobby Hitt and Dr. Mary Thornley; and Glenn McConnell as our MC at a fundraising dinner at the North Charleston Coliseum.

We are so fortunate that Mayor Summey recognizes the importance of our mission and has been a strong and passionate patron for Trident Literacy Association.

This year has been wonderful for Trident Literacy. We held our annual achievement celebration on August 11th at the Coliseum where 50+ GED and 50+ WorkKeys recipients were honored. Dr. Mary Thornley was our keynote speaker. Tissue was needed when we shared each student’s moving story of triumph. It was a wonderful ceremony and we are very proud of all our honorees.

We once again received a grant from the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina for our Mother to Mother Program that has just come to a very successful end. Our English as a Second Language program has tripled in size this past year.

Through these programs, we carry out the core of our mission; helping all adults improve their reading, math and computer skills, giving adults the opportunities for better paying jobs and higher education.
